As desired by its President, Mr. Abdul Mueed, Hamdard National Foundation (India) prepared a scheme to donate and distribute the Blankets to the poor and needy people of Delhi in order to provide them some relief from the severity of the cold weather. Consequently, 5000 Blankets were purchase from the open market for this purpose
Shri Kapil Sibbal, Hon'ble Cabinet Minister of Science & Technology and Ocean Development, inaugurated the scheme on 15 December 2006 by making a symbolic distribution of Blankets to the poor and needy person at a simple function held in New Delhi.
At another function held on 17 January 2007 at Ghalib Academy, Basti Hzrat Nizamuddin, Mr. Farhad Suri, Mayor of Delhi, was invited to distribute the Blankets to the poor and needy people who attended the function in a large number. Mr. Abdul Majeed, Member, Hamdard National Foundation and other officials of Hamdard National Foundation and other officials of Hamdard National Foundation were also present on both the occasions.
Afterwards, the Blankets were distributed to the poor and needy people in large number in different slum areas of Delhi and also donated to some residential Educational Institutions for distribution among the poor students. It has been decided that the scheme shall continue in all years to come in winter season.
